{"id":486,"date":"2022-05-12T02:11:19","date_gmt":"2022-05-12T09:11:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/queersatanic.com\/?p=486"},"modified":"2022-05-12T02:11:19","modified_gmt":"2022-05-12T09:11:19","slug":"what-the-hell-is-the-satanic-temple-ep-5-the-satanic-temple-inc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/qs.gehenna.ynh.fr\/?p=486","title":{"rendered":"What the hell is \u201cThe Satanic Temple\u201d?\u200a\u2014\u200aEp. 5: The Satanic Temple (Inc.)"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Satanic Temple has described itself in a variety of ways over the years, some of them contradictory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, since 2019, it would be fair to say that the Temple <em>most <\/em>commonly has described itself as a &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/QueerSatanic\/status\/1514474914866085896\">famous IRS-recognized atheistic religious organization<\/a>&#8220;, and this is how TST wants people to think of them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What they&#8217;re referring to when they make this claim is not any of the other corporations in this &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/QueerSatanic\/status\/1478278609966034945\">constellation of affiliate entities<\/a>&#8221; that we&#8217;ve covered so far, but just one in particular: The Satanic Temple (Inc.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-css-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Let&#8217;s do a quick recap: In the beginning, March 2012, there was a New York-based, <a href=\"https:\/\/queersatanic.com\/what-the-hell-is-the-satanic-temple-ep-2-spectacle-films-inc\/\">Spectacle Films Inc.<\/a> prank documentary project intended to follow in the style of &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/thereader.mitpress.mit.edu\/an-interview-with-the-yes-men\/\">the Yes Men<\/a>&#8221; about a non-existent organization that worshipped a supernatural Satan while doing good works, e.g. cleaning up a highway. In time, this project evolved into something larger than a fake organization and without a fixed end-date, becoming atheistic and supposedly sincere along the way. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In February 2014, one of the key figures in that documentary, Doug Misicko, registered the for-profit corporation &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/queersatanic.com\/what-the-hell-is-the-satanic-temple-ep-3-united-federation-of-churches-llc\/\">United Federation of Churches LLC<\/a>&#8221; in Massachusetts, but its doing-business-as name and most of <a href=\"https:\/\/uspto.report\/company\/United-Federation-Of-Churches-L-L-C\">its trademarks<\/a> were &#8220;The Satanic Temple&#8221;. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Now, still at this early point, the Temple took the stance that churches should not be tax-exempt.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/pbs.twimg.com\/media\/FCLdrRGVUAAacsp?format=png&amp;name=900x900\" alt=\"FB post by The Satanic Temple <The Satanic Temple (LLC) pays its taxes. We believe religious organizations should not be tax exempt. http:\/\/goo.gl\/pUqv0g&gt;\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>March 27, 2014, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/QueerSatanic\/status\/1450978815111356418\">Facebook post<\/a><\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/pbs.twimg.com\/media\/FCLcqXhVQAIS4uz?format=png&amp;name=large\" alt=\"Petition to End the Tax Exempt Status for all Churches and Religious Organizations.\nCreated by T.C. on March 24, 2014\nSignature Count\n4,390 SIGNED100,000 GOAL\nMoney donated to churches generates numbers greater than $71,000,000,000 a year (Mehta, 2012) and much of this money is used to influence laws which is against section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.\n\nWe beseech you to end the tax exempt status for all churches and religious organizations. Retrieved from Patheos\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>WhiteHouse.gov <a href=\"https:\/\/petitions.obamawhitehouse.archives.gov\/petition\/petition-end-tax-exempt-status-all-churches-and-religious-organizations\/\">petition<\/a> created March 24, 2014.<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This was similar to the older, unrelated organization the Church of Satan of Anton LaVey and its long-held public stance that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.churchofsatan.com\/pentagonal-revisionism#:~:text=Strict%20taxation%20of%20all%20churches\">churches should be taxed for income and property<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yet, a few months later in September 2014, Misicko <a href=\"https:\/\/queersatanic.com\/what-the-hell-is-the-satanic-temple-ep-4-reason-alliance-ltd\/\">registered Reason Alliance Ltd.<\/a>, a standard, non-religious 501(c)(3) nonprofit. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This nonprofit grew to ultimately process hundreds of thousands of dollars annually in tax-exempt contributions, but that came with a downside: financial transparency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-style-plain has-black-color has-white-background-color has-text-color has-background has-link-color wp-elements-2db41e63af3e8a1bfb4c9b3670c24631 is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">An organization that normally has $50,000 or more in gross receipts and that is required to file an exempt organization information return must file either Form 990PDF, Return of Organization Exempt from Income Tax, or Form 990-EZPDF, Short Form Return of Organization Exempt from Income Tax. &#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Small organizations &#8211; those whose annual gross receipts are normally less than the threshold- are not required to file an annual return, but may be required to file an annual electronic notice &#8211; e-Postcard.<\/p>\n<cite>IRS.gov: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irs.gov\/charities-non-profits\/exempt-organization-annual-filing-requirements-overview\">Exempt Organization Annual Filing Requirements Overview<\/a><\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As discussed last time, it became obvious upon review of these documents that Reason Alliance Ltd. was at first explicitly then implicitly revealing it routed funds back to the for-profit by then owned by both Doug Misicko and Cevin Soling.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">(At this point it becomes necessary to point out that both men are rather fond of using pseudonyms, including on government documents. Misicko also uses &#8220;Doug Mesner&#8221; and &#8220;Lucien Greaves&#8221;, the latter itself being <a href=\"https:\/\/uspto.report\/TM\/88574615\">a trademark<\/a> of United Federation of Churches, LLC. Cevin Soling has also used &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.courtlistener.com\/docket\/17042463\/5\/united-federation-of-churches-llc-v-johnson\/\">Calvin Soling<\/a>,&#8221; but more often uses &#8220;Malcolm Jarry&#8221; for TST-associated business.)<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/cdn-images-1.medium.com\/max\/880\/1*3qhzLfLd0_6-zIcssdphwQ.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/cdn-images-1.medium.com\/max\/880\/1*3qhzLfLd0_6-zIcssdphwQ.png?w=580&amp;ssl=1\" alt=\"Portion of deposition of Doug Misicko a.k.a. &quot;Lucien Greaves&quot;.\nQ. How about you and Cevin? Do you receive a salary or compensation?\n\nA. No, we don't receive regular compensation.\n\nQ. Okay. How do you make your life -- well, I'll ask -- I'll ask that another time. How -- how does The Satanic Temple -- how does the Satanic Temple compensate the managers? So Cevin Soling -- excuse me -- Malcolm Jarry, and yourself?\n\nA. There -- there is no regular set compensation, salary, or anything like that. I haven't taken income from The Satanic Temple in probably, like, four months now.\n\nQ. So formerly you took an income?\n\nA. Some -- sometimes to pay rent and that kind of thing. It wasn't like -- there -- never more than $2,000 a month.\" style=\"object-fit:cover\"\/><\/a><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.courtlistener.com\/docket\/7274697\/189\/2\/cave-v-thurston\/\">March 10, 2020<\/a>: under deposition, Doug Misicko admits having no set compensation and not keeping track of it.<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is something of a problem because, as other court depositions and evidence gathered in discovery have confirmed, &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/queersatanic.com\/this-invoice-reveals-the-inner-workings-of-the-satanic-temples-finances\/\">Reason Alliance \/ TST<\/a>&#8221; money was being used to compensate at least one of the owners, Misicko, as needed. Yet, this was being hidden by putting payments on Spectacle Films invoices as late as <em>2017<\/em>, or by first mixing it in the for-profit United Federation of Churches LLC general fund, which Misicko dipped into for rent, business expenses, or to &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/queersatanic.com\/playing-a-shell-game-arkansas-claims-it-needs-federal-courts-help-to-get-to-deepest-circle-of-satanic-orgs-finances\/#:~:text=Well%2C%20turns%20out%20sometimes%20Lucien%20Greaves%20needs%20a%20little%20help%20covering%20his%20rent.\">stay afloat<\/a>&#8221; as needed &#8211; albeit with no outside accountability, since the only officers of any of these corporations were Misicko, Soling, or their pseudonyms. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The state of Arkansas described this as &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.arkansasonline.com\/news\/2021\/nov\/24\/defense-contends-satanic-temple-not-turning-over\/\">a shell game<\/a>&#8220;. Later depositions would reveal that yes, the two men considered funds in one entity to be entirely fungible with the funds of another, regardless of any difference in tax status between the two.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/queersatanic.com-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/ConstellationofAffilliateEntities-897x1024.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/queersatanic.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/ConstellationofAffilliateEntities.jpg\" alt=\"Secretary Thurston complains that this was evasive. Not so. \u201cThe Satanic Temple\u201d is an umbrella term for a religion which is given legal structure by a constellation of affiliate entities. There is no entity named \u201cThe Satanic Temple\u201d anymore because the errantly-named \u201cThe Satanic Temple\u201d corrected its name to \u201cThe Satanic Temple, Inc.\u201d See EXHIBIT 1 (articles of amendment, dated May 24, 2019, renaming the organization from \u201cThe Satanic Temple\u201d to \u201cThe Satanic Temple, Inc.\u201d) The parties have been talking about \u201cThe Satanic Temple, Inc.\u201d since at least March 11, 2020. Doc. 212-13 at 3. There, Secretary Thurston references the March 11 discovery conference and recognized \u201cThe Satanic Temple, Inc.\u201d as a distinct entity from \u201cThe Satanic Temple.\u201d Around that same time, undersigned counsel specified that TST\u2019s discovery responses were verified, \u201cas director of The Satanic Temple, Inc.\u201d Doc. 212-14 at 3.\" style=\"object-fit:cover\"\/><\/a><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>Jan. 3, 2022: The Satanic Temple&#8217;s legal team claims that &#8220;The Satanic Temple&#8221; is a &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.courtlistener.com\/docket\/7274697\/217\/cave-v-thurston\/\">constellation of affiliate entities<\/a>&#8221; rather than anything in particular.<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is in this context that the advent of &#8220;The Satanic Temple (Inc.)&#8221; must be placed, and why that little parentheses will be even more important later.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-css-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As of 2022, when The Satanic Temple wants you to think of The Satanic Temple, they usually want you to think of &#8220;The Satanic Temple (Inc.).&#8221; That&#8217;s because it works out for them far better for you to imagine <a href=\"https:\/\/rewirenewsgroup.com\/religion-dispatches\/2019\/05\/03\/satanic-temples-irs-recognition-rekindles-fierce-debate-over-what-is-really-real-church\/\">a nonprofit Satanic church<\/a>, than for you to imagine any of the other, similarly-named entities that Soling owns, that do business as a variation on &#8220;The Satanic Temple.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We have the aforementioned &#8220;United Federation of Churches LLC,&#8221; which is most egregious because its doing-business-as name is <em>identical <\/em>to the name that the nonprofit church used when applying to the IRS.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/queersatanic.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/image-20.png\" alt=\"Pursuant to LCR 7.1, Plaintiff United Federation of Churches, LLC (dba \u201cThe Satanic Temple\u201d) states that it has the following members: Calvin Soling and Doug Misicko.\" style=\"width:610px;height:407px\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>April 6, 2020: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.courtlistener.com\/docket\/17042463\/5\/united-federation-of-churches-llc-v-johnson\/\">Corporate disclosure statement<\/a> for United Federation of Churches LLC v. All right.\" style=\"object-fit:cover\"\/><\/a><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.courtlistener.com\/docket\/7274697\/124\/7\/cave-v-thurston\/\">March 10, 2020<\/a>: under deposition, Doug Misicko says money from The Satanic Temple website goes into the general fund of United Federation of Churches LLC.<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When we say, &#8220;No indication,&#8221; what we mean is that there are some announcements of total revenue received and laborious attempts to count donations using a third party like <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/QueerSatanic\/status\/1452176581955227656\">Facebook<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/QueerSatanic\/status\/1523530714121052160\">Amazon<\/a>, but otherwise there is no ability to track how much money is going in or how it is being spent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To be clear, it is not <em>illegal<\/em> to not be transparent about those finances as other nonprofits are required to. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>This lack of a disclosure requirement is one of the most important advantages of a church over some other kind of nonprofit<\/strong>.  <\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/queersatanic.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/image-16.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/queersatanic.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/image-16.png\" alt=\"\" style=\"object-fit:cover\"\/><\/a><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.courtlistener.com\/docket\/6726362\/117\/satanic-temple-v-scottsdale-city-of\/\">April 24, 2020<\/a>: Under deposition, Doug Misicko says that despite being the only officer of TST Inc., he is not aware of any formal, written agreements between it and UFC LLC (Page 161 of 255 in Doc. 117). <\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yet, many churches <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ghibc.com\/hp_wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/2020-2021-Church-Budget.pdf\">choose voluntarily to report their finances<\/a>, publicly but especially to their own members, in order to maintain trust and accountability. It is an expectation from members for them to continue contributing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But here, in addition, we have the statements of the owner when put under oath in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.courtlistener.com\/docket\/6726362\/satanic-temple-v-scottsdale-city-of\/\">TST v. Scottsdale<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.courtlistener.com\/docket\/15064653\/satanic-temple-the-v-belle-plaine-city-of\/\">TST v. Belle Plaine<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.courtlistener.com\/docket\/7274697\/parties\/cave-v-thurston\/\">Cave v. Thurston<\/a>. When pressed on how money is being kept apart, the owners admit that they leave that stuff up to others, or even that they see no distinction between the for-profit monies they pay themselves with and the supposedly nonprofit monies used to do their charitable works.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Finally, in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.courtlistener.com\/docket\/17042463\/united-federation-of-churches-llc-v-johnson\/\">their lawsuit against us<\/a>, The Satanic Temple continues to refer to itself as &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/QueerSatanic\/status\/1514474901620490242\">a religious organization<\/a>&#8221; even while choosing to utilize the for-profit corporation &#8220;United Federation of Churches LLC&#8221; as the plaintiff. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" id=\"gofundme\">Yet, thanks to the Federal Employer Identification Number associated with it, we know it was The Satanic Temple (Inc.) that <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20200720203148\/https:\/\/www.gofundme.com\/f\/the-satanic-temple-theft-amp-defamation-legal-fund\">attempted to fundraise $30,000<\/a> to cover their SLAPP suit&#8217;s own costs in a GoFundMe.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/queersatanic.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/image-13.png\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/queersatanic.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/image-14.png\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What &#8220;The Satanic Temple (Inc.)&#8221; allows for, in other words, is to get another layer of financial obfuscation, another entity to shift money to, and another way to hide from donors, regulators, and litigants what is going on with all of those hundreds of thousands of dollars rolling around.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-css-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Postscript<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The CBS\/Paramount+ show &#8220;Evil&#8221; did <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vulture.com\/article\/evil-recap-season-2-episode-11-i-is-for-irs.html\">an episode in its second season<\/a> looking at an\u2014entirely fictional!\u2014organization called the &#8220;New Ministry of Satan.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We&#8217;ll probably need to do a closer reading of that episode at some point, but something worth calling out is this requirement of nonprofit churches.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/64.media.tumblr.com\/585b150aec7a6491f242dd7de958649f\/bd3ff0e4e6592abf-97\/s540x810\/0c11de88188db40d8f6bc049fb91e29439bfc89b.gifv\" alt=\"#Evil from GIFs on the Run\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">&#8220;#2. Must not be about making money.<br>The net earning may not inure to the benefit of one person.&#8221;<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irs.gov\/pub\/irs-pdf\/p1828.pdf\">much longer document<\/a>, the IRS says:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-style-plain has-black-color has-white-background-color has-text-color has-background has-link-color wp-elements-e1fb235dc1b340e3dabc81ddffa87139 is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Churches and religious organizations, like many other charitable organizations, qualify for exemption from federal income tax under IRC Section 501(c)(3) and are generally eligible to receive tax-deductible contributions. To qualify for tax-exempt status, the organization must meet the following requirements (covered in greater detail throughout this publication):<br><br>\u2022 the organization must be organized and operated exclusively for religious, educational, scientific or other charitable purposes;<br><\/em><strong>\u2022 net earnings may not inure to the benefit of any private individual or shareholder;<\/strong><em><br>\u2022 no substantial part of its activity may be attempting to influence legislation;<br>\u2022 the organization may not intervene in political campaigns; and<br>\u2022 the organization\u2019s purposes and activities may not be illegal or violate<br>fundamental public policy.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What jeopardizes this tax-exempt status?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-style-plain has-black-color has-white-background-color has-text-color has-background has-link-color wp-elements-edd63dc2dea21d00af0d1775ef472436 is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>All IRC Section 501(c)(3) organizations, including churches and religious<br>organizations, must abide by certain rules:n their net earnings may not inure to any private shareholder or individual;<br><\/em><strong>\u2022 they must not provide a substantial benefit to private interests;<\/strong><em><br>\u2022 they must not devote a substantial part of their activities to attempting to<br>influence legislation;<br>\u2022 they must not participate in, or intervene in, any political campaign on behalf of<br>(or in opposition to) any candidate for public office; and<br>\u2022  the organization\u2019s purposes and activities may not be illegal or violate<br>fundamental public policy.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What we&#8217;ve hopefully done a good job of showing here is that despite all of the pseudonyms and shell companies, there is lots of evidence based on the previous nonprofit Reason Alliance Ltd. and court documents that the owners of The Satanic Temple are anything but careful in terms of making sure they aren&#8217;t inuring the benefits of all these tax-deductible contributions that people think are going to protecting abortion rights and what have you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When you point this out, some people are horrified, naturally. But for too many people, <a href=\"https:\/\/queersatanic.com\/how-the-satanic-temple-controls-the-media-and-your-mind-part-1-satanic-nativity\/\">negative partisanship motivates their response<\/a>, and what they revert to is some variation of, &#8220;What? You think any other <em>organized religion<\/em> is any better?&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is actually the sort of cynicism that leads conservatives to support repugnant figures like Donald Trump and tactics like electoral fraud, no matter how egregious. &#8220;Yes, our guys are bad. But it&#8217;s nothing like the other guys.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yeah, if your baseline is, &#8220;Everything terrible the Catholic Church and billions of people have done for hundreds of years&#8221;, you will never have to grapple with the harm your own neo-religion or organization is doing. NXIVM and Scientology can&#8217;t hold a candle to the Holy See. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But is that really the standard you want to be using? Is that an improvement?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Satanic Temple is competent as vehicle for the self-aggrandizement of Douglas Alexander Misicko (&#8220;Lucien Greaves&#8221;), as a vehicle for the pet projects of Cevin Soling (&#8220;Malcolm Jarry&#8221;), and as a money-generating machine.
