There\u2019s an unfortunate tendency of people to say:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
a) \u201cSatanist\u201d\/\u201cSatanic\u201d to just mean \u201cthing I don\u2019t like\u201d; Your mileage may vary on which of these misconceptions is the worst as it likely is highly context dependent. But if you are in liberal and leftist spaces, it’s likely you’re going to be running into Option D most, and yes, that one is also<\/em> quite bad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Chrissy Stroop of The Bugbear Dispatch<\/a> has written extensively about this dynamic vis-\u00e0-vis<\/em> Christianity, and how “real Christians are good<\/em> progressive beans, actually” normalizes Christian supremacy by treating it as by default good, which preemptively discredits and marginalizes its victims further. <\/p>\n\n\n\n It might even be more accessible of a canard for Satanists, who can \u2014 and occasionally have \u2014handwaved away the notion of victims under the premise that it’s just relitigating the Satanic Panic. And because so much of the popular appeal of Satanism is some (often justified) negative partisanship against Christianity, there’s tremendous pressure against acknowledging real bad actors and even real victims lest it “give more ammo to conservatives” or whatever other excuse<\/a> ends up reinforcing arbitrary hierarchies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n What all of those options have in common, though, is how they engage in wild, knee-jerk and sweeping sentiments with people sometimes swinging back and forth through successive inverted understandings of the world and how people operate in it. b) \u201c(nazi) SATANISTS<\/strong>? how alarming!\u201d missing what\u2019s truly harmful here;
c) \u201cThose are fake <\/em>satanists. Only Anton LaVey and the Church of Satan\u2026\u201d; or
d) \u201cReal <\/em>Satanists are the good guys \u2014 more Christlike than Christians, even\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
