It’s true that most fascists in America, like most people, are Christian.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, that doesn’t change that the elements that actually make Christo-fascism bad (the fascism) also show up in lots of other areas like the occult, neo-paganism, and video game culture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Obvious in the picture below is the pseudo-Nordic aesthetic of Arizona QAnon supporter Jake Angeli with his furs, horns, and Hammer of Thor tattoo:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Less obvious is the “Outsider’s Mark<\/a>” tattoo on the left hand of the person in the yellow hoodie, neo-Nazi Jason Tankersly<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gamergate was the online preparation for much of what we’ve seen subsequently, involving many white men who didn’t consider themselves Christian but very much did agree with a patriarchal, reactionary Christian view of the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Actually, it\u2019s about ethics in heathenism!” indeed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But the same sense of latent doom is there, too. It always has been. When the white-supremacist terror group called the Silent Brotherhood, also known as The Order, was suppressed in 1984 after murdering a Jewish radio host, half its inner leadership circle identified as Odinist. Even the fact that the alt-right movement initially organized itself largely around video game chauvinism tells you something about its relationship to fantasy, its desperate need to be given a special destiny.
