It\u2019s performative and does nothing. People wonder why nobody has critical thinking skills and this is part of it because no one knows how to [simultaneously] critique and consume media. You need to use discernment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is ultimately why propaganda is going to work on you. Because you never learned how to think for yourself and the actual ideology behind things. You simply rely on group think and the bare minimum explanations to tell you what\u2019s good and bad.<\/p>\n<cite>[<a href=\"https:\/\/someobscurereference.tumblr.com\/post\/655372173061603329\/ive-said-this-before-and-ill-say-it-again-its\">Source<\/a>]<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It\u2019s OK to engage with and even be complimentary of the good aspects of media containing elements that are problematic \u2014 or abusive or bigoted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sometimes the specific thing will be too horrible or central and you can\u2019t enjoy it at all. That\u2019s normal, and when it comes to watching for pleasure, doing more work is exhausting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But \u201cyou are not immune to propaganda\u201d, and one of the few inoculations that exists is <em>studying<\/em> it, particularly bad propaganda where all the seams are out and obvious. It\u2019s possible then to catch what a more skillful creator is doing subtly elsewhere because you actually understand it and how it fits together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThing bad\u201d is a start, but understanding <em>why<\/em> \u201cthing bad\u201d helps protect against novel strains of related memes (in the idea-virus sense), so that you don\u2019t say, \u201cugh I hate terfs\u201d then turn around and sound just like them toward asexual people, or say \u201cfree Palestine!\u201d enthusiastically but still consider \u201cLand Back\u201d in a USA context to be IdPol nationalism, or whatever.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Tumblr @dilfgirlI\u2019ve said this before and I\u2019ll say it again: it\u2019s more important to know and understand fully why something is harmful than it is to drop everything deemed problematic.
